Privacy Policy
Shake to DND lets you toggle Do Not Disturb by shaking your phone. This policy explains what information the app handles, why, and the choices you have. In short: the app has no accounts, shows no ads, does not use your Advertising ID and never collects your name, email, contacts, location or files. The only data that leaves your device is anonymous usage statistics (which you can turn off) and what Google needs to deliver app configuration and process an optional purchase.
1. Data processed only on your device
- Motion sensor (accelerometer). Read continuously while shake detection is on, to recognize a shake. It is analysed in memory and immediately discarded. It is never stored or sent anywhere.
- Do Not Disturb state. With the access you grant, the app reads and changes your Do Not Disturb setting. It does not read your notifications or their content.
- Your settings (sensitivity, Do Not Disturb mode, timer, schedule, tutorial progress, analytics choice) and a cached copy of your Pro purchase status are stored in the app's private storage.
If Android backup is enabled on your phone, Android may include these settings in your device backup to your Google account, which is handled by Google under its own privacy policy. You can control this in your phone's backup settings.
2. Anonymous usage statistics (Firebase Analytics)
To learn which features are used and where the app fails, the app uses Google Firebase Analytics. It sends:
- App events, such as Do Not Disturb turned on or off by a shake, the button or the timer; a setting changed; a permission granted or denied; a tutorial step viewed; the paywall viewed or a purchase started, completed or cancelled.
- Your app settings as properties (for example sensitivity, Do Not Disturb mode, timer length, whether the schedule is on, whether you have Pro).
- Information Firebase collects automatically: a random app-instance ID, device model, Android version, app version, language, approximate country/region (derived from the IP address; Google Analytics does not log or store IP addresses), and session information (first open, session start, engagement time).
The app does not collect the Advertising ID (it is removed from the app), disables ad personalization signals, and never sends personal information such as names, email addresses or precise location. The data is used only for analytics and app improvement, is never sold and is not used for advertising.
Your choice: turn off Settings → Share anonymous usage statistics in the app. Collection stops immediately and the analytics data on your device, including the app-instance ID, is reset.
Analytics data is kept by Google for at most 14 months and then deleted automatically.
3. App configuration (Firebase Remote Config)
The app downloads configuration values (for example shake thresholds and default settings) from Google Firebase Remote Config. To do this, Firebase uses a random installation ID and basic device and app information (app version, Android version, language, country). No personal information is sent.
4. Purchases (Google Play Billing)
The optional one-time Pro unlock is sold through Google Play. Payment is handled entirely by Google: the app never sees your payment details. The app receives only the purchase status and a purchase token from Google Play, which it uses to unlock Pro features, acknowledge the purchase and restore it on your other devices. See the Google Privacy Policy.
5. Permissions
- Do Not Disturb access: to turn Do Not Disturb on and off.
- Notifications: to show the status notification while detection runs.
- Foreground service, wake lock, run at startup, exact alarms, battery optimization: to keep detecting shakes in the background, after a reboot and with the screen off (where enabled), and to end timers and schedules on time.
- Vibration: to confirm a toggle.
- Internet: for the analytics, configuration and purchases described above.
6. Sharing
We do not sell or share your data with anyone other than Google, which processes it as a service provider for the purposes above (Firebase and Google Play). Data is sent over encrypted (HTTPS) connections.
7. Deleting your data
- Turn off Share anonymous usage statistics to stop collection and reset on-device analytics data.
- Clearing the app's storage or uninstalling the app deletes everything stored on your device.
- Because analytics data is not linked to your identity, we cannot look it up by name or email, but you can contact us with any request (see below) and it is deleted automatically after the retention period.
8. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new effective date.
